For a long time I've wanted to make a hat to wear with my Clepsydra mittens, but I just didn't have enough of the yarn that I originally designed the mittens with. Back in December I finally took the time to order yarn to remake the mittens along with enough for the matching hat. I've been all about the neutrals lately so I chose Berroco Ultra Alpaca in Steal Cut Oats with Winter White for the contrast trim.
As with the mittens the hat starts with a cabled icord brim. Stitches are picked up around the icord, then the hat is worked in a twisted cable to the crown. The alpaca yarn makes it extra warm and Berroco offers such an exquisite range of colors in their Ultra Alpaca line that you may be compelled to make more than one set. After seeing Margene's orange Clepsydra mittens recently I've been dreaming of a set in that color of my own.

The hat looks warm and cozy, like the mittens! I love my mittens and need show them BOTH off. The hat will be fun to knit, too.
