Knitting It Old School
I have been excitedly waiting for the release of Stitchy McYarnpants & Caro Sheridan's new book Knitting it Old School . I was not only eager to get my hands on a copy because I have a pattern in it, but I knew that any book that combined the talents of Stitchy and Caro was going to be great. My copy arrived the other day and it's every bit as wonderful as I thought it would be. I had a non-knitting friend over on Friday night and as she browsed through the designs she declared that she must learn to knit just so she can make a several of the patterns in this book!
Knitting it Old School is packed full of fun retro patterns, both knit and crochet. My daugher Sofie really, really wants Maryse Roudier's Go-Go Granny dress. Her sister IJK wants Adrian Bizilla's Peppermint Lounge Hat and Mittens. I wish I could find the time to make Annie Modesitt's Sunday Drive for myself.
My own contribution to the book is Swing Time a curve-hugging, ribbed sweater. Its cuffed short sleeves are adorned with buttons and a touch of puff and the top.

Sofie modled for a few quick shots of Swing Time before we sent it off for the real photo shoot. I think it suits her. She loves it because it works well with the high waisted pants and skirts that she is so fond of these days.
I have two copies of this book so I thought I'd share the wealth. Leave a comment to this post telling me how you'd wear Swing Time if you made it and I will draw one winner at random to receive a copy of Knitting it Old School. The contest ends one week from today on September 6, 2010 at midnight EDT.

I'd wear it just the way it's pictured! I love the way it looks with the narrow black skirt, and maybe get some fishnet stockings and black pump shoes.

Gorgeous sweater... it would be worn by one of my daughters, too!

What a lovely design! I think I would wear it similar to Sofie's stylings: with a high-waisted pencil skirt. Instant class!

definitely a pencil skirt, and a skinny belt.

Ohh, so lovely. I think Sofie is just right in her style - I would also wear it with a high waisted skirt. And with my hair up in a vintage style from the 40s or 50s and my favorite pumps. Lovaly.

I love it! I'd probably wear it with jeans.. not very original.

It looks great on Sophie & I love that color.
I think I would wear it with my wide leg trousers & for sure heels!

I think that's absolutely adorable. Not sure, but I think I too, would wear it with cigarette pants (partly because I *can*, now!). But even with dress slacks I could easily wear it to the office - it's a versatile piece, classic, not the least dated (ok, in my vintage mind!)
:)
Congratulations on the pattern and please do include me in the contest! I'd love a copy of the book!
(((hugs)))

Oooh! Love it! I'd wear it with a black pencil skirt, patterned stockings and pumps. I would look fabulous, if only I had somewhere fabulous to wear such an outfit!

I would wear it with a high-waisted form fitting skirt that flared out once it got to the knees. I would then add a pop of color with red shoes and a red bracelet :-)

This is definitely a high waisted skirt or pants type sweater, very cute!

Oooh! I love this piece! I think would (will) wear it with some cigarette pants and motorcycle boots- I'm a bit of a rebel.

I love Swing Time! It is so Mad Men, which I just adore. I'd wear it with a pencil skirt and a pair thick-framed glasses for sexy librarian chic.

I would love a copy of the book and if I don't win it, I'll buy it.

Lovely design! I'd wear it with wide-legged grey or black slacks.

I love Swing Time! I would probably make it a little longer for me, and wear it with knit pants. It would be a perfect piece for me to wear to work.

I agree with most, a pencil skirt would look best under this. Knee lenght. I'd chose this same color for the top and khaki for the skirt :)

I would love to wear this over a black dress that is just too blah by itself! Great job!

Goodness, I loved Sunday Drive and also the hat and mittens. It would be hard to decide which needed to be started first. Looks like a great book.

Oh my gosh! I would wear Swing Time at least 2 times a week, probably more. One time I'd wear it with wideleg jeans, and the other with a pencil skirt, and then all other times with wide swingy skirts for ridin' on my granny bike.
What a cool book! Vintage patterns + clever modern designers == good stuff!

Love this pattern! I'd knit this in a nice rustic fall brown tweed and wear it over my favorite tan-flowered sundress with leather boots to turn a summer outfit into a fall one!

I have these awesome sailor style pants that this would look great with.

I am totally obsessed with Mad Men right now, and Joan (June?)'s style on the show -- fantastically vintage. This sweater reminds me of it, so I'd probably make it in a fantastic, statement color, like deep emerald green or poppy red-pink. Oooh, or a rich fuschia. I have the perfect gray pencil skirt for this, and I'd wear it with patterned tights and patent pumps! Maybe I'd even break out one of my grandma's vintage hats for a photoshoot!

I'd make swing time to wear with a pencil skirt to work- so stylish!
