Once they saw Pamela Wynne's whimsical Elf Shoes pattern, each of my kids begged for a pair. I love this pattern! It's quick, fun, a great stash buster and the recipients are always thrilled.

The Lad's Elf Shoes - Men's Size 11 (Graciously Modeled by SKK while he was at work.)
SKK's Elf Shoes - Women's Size 10
Each pair only took two days, despite the rather amply sized feet that I was knitting for. I went stash diving for the yarn. It's amazing how much Cascade 220 I own in "elfish" colors. There's enough left for another pair or two. If I hadn't decided to cast on a last minute Christmas shawl for my SIL yesterday I'd make myself a pair.
Happy Holidays one and all!!!!
My new patterns, Wood Hollow Hat & Wood Hollow Mittens (Ravelry links) were named for the street where I grew up. Wood Hollow Road conjures comforting memories of lovingly cooked meals, gatherings with friends and family, my parents beautiful gardens and always my father's beloved music playing in the background.
If you're looking for something special for last minute holiday knitting this set might be just the project. Hats and mittens work up quickly. There is, if you are anything like me, plenty of worsted weight yarn already in your stash. The cables here may look complicated, but there is only a simple 8 row repeat, which is easily memorized. Both patterns have charts as well as written instructions for the stitch patterns.

I had two skeins of yarn left over from my Wood Hollow Vest so I made a matching hat and pair of mittens. The last stitch was perfectly timed for a quick photo shoot as the snow started to come down today.
I'm now obsessed with pompom makers. I want one in every size.

There's still enough time before the holidays to knit a fun, quick, whimsical hat. The Reykjavik Stocking Cap is designed to match my Reykjavik Mittens pattern, but it has plenty of spunk to stand on its own if you don't have time to make both.
Thank you to my test knitters, Regina, Raquel and Laura for their help and valuable feedback! Thank you also to the awesome participants of the Reykjavik Mitten class I taught at Modern Yarn for inspiring the pattern!!
